Dehradun: Bageshwar's Rohit Danu created history by scoring a goal against Aizawl FC in a match of I-league. By this virtue Danu became the youngest player to score a goal in the I-League beating fellow Indian Arrows starlet Jitendra Singh to the record, at the age of 16 years, five months and 27 days.
Indian Arrows snatched a 1-0 victory over hosts and former Champions Aizawl FC thanks to a solitary goal from youngster Rohit Danu the 57th game of the 12th Hero I-League 2018-19.
The match that was played at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, in Aizawl saw Indian Arrows rise up in the Hero I-League points table to the ninth position, while hosts Aizawl FC slipped a place to be now in the 10th spot. Anwar Ali of Indian arrows was adjudged as the Hero of the Match.
Born on 10 July 2002 at Bageshwar (Uttarakhand), Danu represented Uttarakhand state U-14 football team twice, Rohit was struggling to pursue his dream of becoming a professional footballer in the hill state.
In 2015, he attended the selection trail for Sports Authority of India’s regional football academy hosted in Dehradun. Danu got selected and moved to SAI Delhi after that he has not looked back.
After spending some time in SAI Delhi, the footballer was picked by All India Football Federation for its academy. Danu has represented Indian U-16 football teams in various international tournaments and friendly matches. He was inducted in the preparatory India U-17 team, consists of 24 selected players.
